A kindly Rabbi is walking down a city street with comfortable homes on either side when he spots a small boy standing on tiptoes trying to press a doorbell. Why, the Rabbi muses to himself, that fellow’s likely to be at it a year before he’s grown tall enough achieve his goal. Someone inside might begin to worry.
So the Rabbi decides to help. He walks up behind the little man, places his hand gently on the boy’s shoulder, says, “Allow me,” leans forward and gives the doorbell a solid ring.Crouching down so he and the child are eye-to-eye, the Rabbi smiles and says, “What now, my friend?”
To which the boy replies with a twinkle, “Now we run!”
